Rogers International School Located at 202 Blachley Road (turn in near McDonald’s on East Main Street) is Stamford’s newest school building. It houses the Rogers International Baccalaureate program. It is extraordinary inside – bright and spacious. This school services 730 students with 50 classroom teachers. It currently has grades K-7. An 8th grade will be added beginning September 2011. Of this total 75% of students come from Stamford; the remaining 25% come from other towns and cities in southwestern Connecticut. Although instruction begins at 8:55 a.m. and extends to 3:25 p.m., Rogers offers a 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. school day allowing parents to drop their children off in the morning and pick them up after work in the evening by providing supplemental programs. In the classrooms children and teachers talk about real world events. Foreign language instruction, a spirit of discovery, hands-on computer usage and enjoyment of learning is all part of the experience. The mission of the International Baccalaureate (IB) is “…to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. IB encourages…a sense of identity as global citizens in the 21st century.” For more about Rogers, call 203-977-4560. |
